Seating at long clear wooden table under a Frida Kahlo painting, lovers of Mexican food could feel just like being in a real taqueria, those taco-specialised establishments that also serve a few other Mexican dishes. And yet, on the terrace filled with coloured-legged chairs, it is the unmistakable Mediterranean sun that shines. Santa Rosalia has imported the taqueria concept onto the streets of Toulon, giving it a twist by using organic and local products.
Inside, the vintage decoration mixes with retro furniture and walls expose old stones and concrete in a lovely mix of ancient and modern tones. Behind the counter, the duo of Emmanuel and Henri means business in the kitchen. They cook tacos by the minute, following seasonal recipes. On the tight menu, which changes on a daily basis, you will find various taco offerings - including a rice-based one in lieu of the taco shell for those who like to eat with a fork - as well as tostadas and more classic fare, but always according to the principle of sourcing the best products. Flour from Bras, Correns wine, veal from the Alps, regional vegetables, locally brewed beer… even the crockery is made in France!
