Le restaurant Jean, Catalan cooking under a greenhouse

Its bistro cuisine with a Catalan twist and bodega spirit make Le Restaurant Jean a popular spot.

The Jean from the restaurant's name is actually Jean-Baptiste Ciriani, owner of this establishment by the Perpignan train station. This former cooperage furnished with second-hand items and a lovely staircase conceived by designer Roger Talon is reminiscent of Catalan bodegas, replete with overloaded kitsch decoration. Dishes are also firmly etched in local traditions, offering colourful and flavourful bistro cuisine: cod fish in aioli au gratin, cargolade (grilled escargots, a must-try of Catalan gastronomy), duck breast skewers and calamari a la planxa, all to be enjoyed in the patio, when weather permits!

Closely associated with Perpignan, the address is a must for regulars who gather as soon as the sun rears its head. Le Restaurant Jean, with its welcoming and laidback atmosphere, dons coloured string lights at night. In summertime, behind the ancient iron gate, under the patio's greenhouse, you will be taken back the village folk dances of yesteryear. Catalan tapas keep coming, the place is packed… and yet service always remains fast and efficient – which is always handy considered the nearby station – as the staff greets you with an ever-smiling face. However, reservations are strongly recommended!
